There’s nothing better than holiday time where you can sit back, relax, and indulge- especially over the Festive Season! Getting in shape has always been one of the New-Year Resolutions that always appear at the top of our list, but it’s not always that easy to hop back into your routine. Here are our top tips for getting back into your fitness routine after a long break.
Slow and steady
Don’t rush yourself! Although muscle memory can make it feel as if you are on top of your game again, but don’t be fooled! Going too heavy or strong in your first sessions back can cause you to injure yourself. Instead, rather try starting slow and increasing your weight, speed, or durations- rather than trying to exercise at the same intensity as before your break. Going slowly can also help you keep a more consistent schedule- which is definitely a very big benefit.
Remember that great feeling
Exercise is one of the best methods to get that feel-good feeling. Especially when you have to return to your daily routine of responsibilities. Not only does it help with your physical fitness, but exercise contributes heavily to your mental wellness. When you exercise, your body releases endorphins, which gives an enormous sense of well-being.
Set your fitness goals
Nothing productive can ever be reached without proper goal setting. Set yourself reachable goals, and devise an action plan on how you are actually going to reach these goals. Choose a definite time every day when you will be heading to the gym and make sure that you plot it in your diary. This will actively help you see your exercise routine as part of your everyday routine, and get you back into that steady routine you once had. Take an hour or two every week to sit with yourself and audit how successful you’ve been and how far you still have to go to reach your fitness and wellness goals.
Step by Step
Achieving great results doesn’t happen instantaneously- you have to actively work towards creating a routine that works on your terms.
